To be or not to be – the question that should be asked by Poles and Swedes before today’s matches. Loss of „White-Reds” and draw for „Blue-Yellows” on inauguration complicates the situation in group A for both teams. Any loss of points may irreversibly close the way to semifinals. Who will perform better under such pressure?
That’s not how the hosts of UEFA EURO U21 Poland 2017 imagined beginning of the tournament. Despite Patryk Lipski’s goal in their first appearance, White-Reds lost to Slovakia 1:2 (1:1).
Earlier, however, Swedes played their match at Kielce Stadium. And if anyone has the right to be unhappy with the goalless draw against England, then it is the Swedes. Crossbar by Pawel Cibicki, missed penalty by Linus Wahlqvist… Sweden could get all 3 points.
It is possible that we will see some changes in the starting eleven of both teams. Marcin Dorna finally can include David Kownacki in the squad, who paused for the yellow cards to play for Slovakia. Making some adjustments will be definitely considered by the Swedish team coach, Hakan Ericson, as well
Poland and Sweden will start their match already knowing the result of England’s clash with Slovakia. Poles, regardless of the outcome, can not lose to stay in fight for semi-finals. The Swedes, on the other hand, are in a slightly better position, but it is also determined by the result in Kielce.
Poprzedni raz ekipy „Biało-czerwonych” i „Trzech Koron” zmierzyły się ze sobą jesienią 2015 roku. Wówczas, w sparingu rozegranym na Stadionie Kielce, padł bezbramkowy remis.
Last time, “White-reds” and “Three Crowns” teams played against each other fall 2015. Back then, friendly match played in Kielce ended with a goalless draw.
Second match of group A betwen Poland and Sweden starts on Monday 19th of June at 20:45 in Lublin. The main referee is Slavko Vincić from Slovenia.
